Low‐cost bus seating information technology system

Abstract: Public transport operators often struggle to provide a reliable and efficient transport service. A lack of comprehensive real-time operational data is often cited as a major cause for this state of things. In this paper, we report on the design, implementation and testing of an Internet of Things-based system, named Bus Seating Information Technology (BusSIT) system, which dynamically determines vehicle occupancy while the bus is in service. It uses an array of sensors for detecting events in the vehicle: infr… Show more

“…The application system based on the network, process, and intelligent service mode is called the network intelligent service system. Networking means that anyone can conduct business transactions at any time and anywhere in an open network through network terminals, mobile phones, and other devices [4]. For example, in the early days, people could only go to the office hall to handle medical insurance reimbursement through various approval windows; now, you can not only handle the medical insurance reimbursement business as before but also apply for the medical insurance reimbursement business on the corresponding network terminal or mobile terminal; two methods are used to meet the needs of different Medicare reimbursement applicants.…”

“…Overall, the use of cameras in the proposed system as a tool to count the number of passengers combined with BSA and MOA, has much better performance, durability, and accuracy compared to systems that use infrared (Olivo et al, 2020) (Sundaramoorthy et al, 2018) (Jain, 2019), ultrasonic light sensors (Baltes & Rey, 1999) (Drăgulinescu et al, 2018), Bluetooth HC-05 (Sojol et al, 2018) (Murdan et al, 2020), or RFID (Pradana et al, 2020) (Rajkumar, 2020). This is because systems that use these sensors can only detect passengers if something passes through the sensor, without recognizing whether it is human or other objects.…”

“…Other research for APC systems that use multiple sensors to count passengers. The fusion of Bluetooth HC-05 sensors, pressure pads, and potentiometer data and can also count the number of passengers at a low-cost (Sojol et al, 2018) (Murdan et al, 2020). There is also APC research that uses RFID sensors as a ticketing process on school buses.…”
