Low-Cost Education Kit for Teaching Basic Skills for Industry 4.0 Using Deep-Learning in Quality Control Tasks

Abstract: The main purposes of this paper are to offer a low-cost solution that can be used in engineering education and to address the challenges that Industry 4.0 brings with it. In recent years, there has been a great shortage of engineering experts, and therefore it is necessary to educate the next generation of experts, but the hardware and software tools needed for education are often expensive and access to them is sometimes difficult, but most importantly, they change and evolve rapidly. Therefore, the use of ch… Show more

“…The demand of 3D printing is increasing day by day because of reduction in manufacturing cost, produce quality products, flexible, convenient and speedup the production process. Also, it minimizes the overall weight of the items, reduces transportation and reduces waste in production that is more beneficial to automotive and aerospace industries (Pajpach et al, 2022). The capability of 3D printing to increase digitization and reduces life cycle, wastage of products, machine breakdown, rework and absenteeism makes it more demanding in industries.…”

“…Education and training in specific Industry 4.0 skills are fundamental, as demonstrated by the low-cost kit developed by Pajpach et al, which uses deep learning techniques to teach quality control in industrial contexts [3]. This educational approach is vital to preparing a workforce capable of handling emerging technologies and complex production configurations.…”

“…Reference [8] provides a learning tool in the field of the Internet of Energy through web server applications based on a low-cost single-board computer. Reference [9] and [10] provides educational setup methods for power electronics. Even though these tools can easily be used in a classroom they are not sufficiently modular and flexible to cover a variety of challenges and solutions that energy transition brings.…”
