Low-Cost Efficient Magnetic Adsorbent for Phosphorus Removal from Water

Abstract: Adsorption using magnetic adsorbents makes the phosphorus removal from water simple and efficient. However, most of the reported magnetic adsorbents use chemically synthesized nanoparticles as magnetic cores, which are expensive and environmentally unfriendly. Replacing the nanomagnetic cores by cheap and green magnetic materials is essential for the wide application of this technique. In this paper, coal-fly-ash magnetic spheres (MSs) were processed to produce a cheap and eco-friendly magnetic core. A magneti… Show more

“…Table 1 lists the specific surface area of each adsorbent used in this study. The specific surface area values determined experimentally correspond with the data in the literature [ 72 , 73 , 74 , 78 , 79 , 80 , 82 , 83 , 84 , 85 , 90 , 91 , 92 , 93 , 94 , 95 , 96 , 97 ].…”

“…Nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms were recorded at 77K on a NOVA 2200 apparatus. The specific surface area was calculated by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) theory from multi-point regression in the 0.08–0.3 relative pressure range [ 85 , 90 , 91 ]. The results are shown in Table 1 .…”

“…Figure 4 b shows the adsorption performance of Alg-Cu@GO@MOF-525 for TC at different pH values. When pH value is less than 3.3, TC mainly exists in the form of TCH 3 + , which not only forms competitive adsorption with H + but also has electrostatic repulsion due to protonation of oxygen-containing functional groups [ 41 ]. Experimental results also show that the adsorption performance is poor under such conditions.…”

“…Their substantial positive charge facilitates strong adsorption of phosphate anions, rendering them frequently utilized as phosphate removal adsorbents. 22 A novel kind of adsorption material is layered double hydroxides (LDHs), which are widely used in various neighborhoods, [23][24][25][26] especially used to remove anionic pollutants due to their rich species, controllable interlayer spacing, positive charge of laminates, and negative charge between the layers. [27][28][29] Upon calcination within the temperature range of 200-500 1C, the LDHs undergo a transformation where hydroxyl groups are gradually eliminated as water molecules, leading to an increase in specific surface area and pore volume.…”
