SUMMARYThis paper proposes a novel and generic Huffman code table (HCT) transform and a simple parallel Huffman decoding method. Codes of the original HCT are left-aligned, reordered in value, and partitioned into sub-bands. Two kinds of modification to the codes are introduced in order to reduce the number of subbands. The Huffman decoder can be implemented with a minimized size of single LUT, and the parallel decoding can be completed easily, at a constant rate of up to one code per cycle. An example of MP3 decoder and AAC decoder has been designed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

This paper analyses the difficulties and opportunities for Chinese digital broadcasting development and suggests the shift from traditional radio programs to public applications. Digital broadcasting has inherent advantages in this direction and can be complement to modern communication techniques. And thus has potential to open up a massive new DAB-dominant market. Applications of DAB on campus and DAB for public safety are reported as examples, with key techniques introduced.

Developed from Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB), DMB+ changes the application focus fundamentally. The plus symbol "+" indicates that DMB+ is no longer for digital radio/videos, instead it works as a general data transmission technique. The merits of wireless transmission, broad coverage, high quality, information security and low building/maintenance cost make DMB+ suitable for a wide range of applications with numerous terminals and users, such as public information release, alarm and administration etc. The concept of DMB+ base station enables DMB+ to be used in building independent networks and for remote control and management, as well as for Industry 4.0. DMB+ will access into a new field that till now has been dominated by communication techniques, will open a huge commercial opportunity.
