Low frequency modelling of induction heaters using series equivalent circuit, transformer equivalent circuit and finite element analysis

Abstract: Induction heating is a process where a varying magnetic field is used to heat a conductor or workpiece. When a piece of metal or conductor is placed near a magnetic field created by energising a coil of wire, the magnetic field transfers energy into the conductor, thus heating it up. This paper presents three methods for modelling induction heaters at mains frequency. These models are known as the series equivalent circuit (SEC) model, the transformer equivalent circuit (TEC) model and finite element analysis … Show more

“…Silicon-Carbide (SiC) is employed for a full-bridge resonant converter in [6] and compared to IGBTs and Si-MOSFETs in terms of efficiency in [7]. Different electrical models for the inductive energy transfer path are used in the literature (see [12], [17], [18], [19]): Transformer equivalent circuit (TEC), mutual inductance or a simplified series circuit with only R and L (series equivalent circuit SEC). Based on verification measurements it was decided to use the simplified TEC model shown in Fig.…”

“…the design, simulation, and experimental testing of a 24 kHz, 100 kW electromagnetic thermal storage system. [22][23][24][25] The system mainly includes a power generation system, rectifier circuit, DC/DC converter, filter circuit, inverter circuit, controller, electromagnetic induction heating, cold water supply, and hot water storage. This paper mainly studies the influence of Q235 steel, double sleeve induction heating structure, and composite resonant fullbridge inverter on the performance of energy storage systems.…”
