Abstract:Low-frequency spectrum of hydration water molecules around the hydrophobic probe in an aqueous solution has been obtained by using tetraalkylammonium cation as a probe and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The obtained spectrum of hydration water has intensity larger than that of ice and smaller than that of bulk water. This suggests that dynamics of hydration water molecules are partially restricted compared to those of bulk water.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
