Low lactose in the nutritional management of diarrhea: Case reports from India

Abstract: Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in under-5 children. In addition to usual care, lactose avoidance is advised by physicians to manage diarrhea in children. Lactose is vital for growth and development in children. There is paucity of data from India on use of low lactose diet in infants with diarrhea. This article presents case reports from India for four infants with diarrhea managed with low-lactose formulas to maintain energy and nutrient intakes without avoiding lactose entirely.
