Low-Level Laser Therapy with 670 nm Alleviates Diabetic Retinopathy in an Experimental Model

Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on the retina with diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods: Eight Wistar rats were used as a control group, and 64 rats were injected intraperitoneally with 55 mg/kg of streptozotocin to induce diabetes and served as a diabetic group. After the establishment of the DR, the rats were separated into (a) 32 rats with DR; did not receive any treatment, (b) 32 rats with DR were exposed to 670 nm LLLT for 6 success… Show more

“…A total of 6 studies were conducted, including 4 studies on preclinical models ( 64 67 ) and 2 studies in humans ( 68 , 69 ) ( Table 3 ). Preclinical studies consistently reported a positive effect of PBM on retinal structure associated with a decrease in oxidative stress.…”

“…Determination of ROS was performed using colorimetric assays, each according to the manufacturer's instructions (Appendix S1). The oxidative stress index (MDA/TAC ratio) was then obtained by dividing the values of MDA (μmol/L) by TAC (mmol/L) (Ahmed et al, 2021; Badehnoosh et al, 2018; Dash et al, 2014).…”
