“…Gao et al found that p53 mediated activation of miR-26a induced apoptosis in HCC cells [175]. Furthermore, low expression of miR-26a correlated with a poor prognosis of HCC patients [144,176]. This finding was also confirmed in patients with HBV-induced HCC [177].…”

“…Our study supports the previously described findings by Wang et al that the miR‐26 family provides prognostic information in HCC. A previous study suggested low circulating levels of miR‐26a in a Korean population with HCC was associated with poor liver transplant‐free survival . Multiple Chinese studies have suggested that circulating levels of miR‐26a in combination with other miRNAs can be helpful in differentiating cases of chronic hepatitis B or C and HCC, even at early cancer stages .…”

“…It was previously shown that low tumor levels of miR‐26 in a predominantly HBV‐infected population were associated with shorter overall survival, but better response to interferon therapy in Chinese patients . Additionally, higher miR‐26a levels before curative intervention with radiofrequency ablation or resection have been shown to improve disease‐free survival in South Korean patients . In the United States, Japan, and Europe, HCV infection is more prevalent than HBV and is the major cause of HCC .…”
