Low Molecular Weight Poly(Lactide-co-Caprolactone) for Tissue Adhesion and Tetracycline Hydrochloride Controlled Release in Wound Management

Abstract: The use of biopolymers as bioadhesives for human tissue is becoming a preferred alternative to suturing due to their superior adhesive, biocompatible, and biodegradable properties. In this work, low molecular weight poly(L-lactide-co--caprolactone) (P(LA-co-CL) was synthesized to achieve the glass transition temperature (T g ) of the copolymer at ambient temperature so that during application on the skin, the copolymer when combined with chitosan (CHI) into the CHI/P(LA-co-CL) film could provide the strong su… Show more

“…The highest percentage incorporation of LA was found for 1 (62.6 %). The observed molecular weights (3680–6670) are best described as low to moderate; however, we note there is interest in low molecular weight poly(lactide/caprolactone) polymers as bio‐adhesives . Thermal analysis of the co‐polymers by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed two melting points at 55.7 °C (PCL) and 125.9 °C (PLA), see Figure S22.…”

“…2 Furthermore, given the differing properties that can be associated with both PCL and PLA, there is interest in 3-Cl/LA copolymers of varying compositions; low molecular weight 3-Cl/LA copolymers have been employed as bio-adhesives. 3 In terms of control, as well as judicious choice of metal centre, it has become clear that the ligand set can also play a pivotal role in determining the catalytic behaviour of the ROP system. Chelating N,O-or O,O-ligand sets have shown great potential.…”

“…In cases of full-thickness burns or deep ulcers, there are no remaining sources of cells for tissue regeneration and recovery [1]. These severely injured parts will deteriorate further if a patient has diabetes [2]. Hence, tissue engineering (TE) technology is crucial to solve this issue.…”

“…However, there is less research on the antibacterial testing of PCL/GE nanofibers for the application of skin tissue regeneration. It is essential to apply antibiotic to the severely injured part of the skin via a drug delivery system to reduce inflammation caused by bacterial infection [20]. Therefore, it is important to fabricate an antibacterial test for PCL/GE-based nanofibers to avoid the interference of bacteria with cell activities during tissue regeneration and repair.…”
