“…However, among the 7 national cohorts included in this study (Figure 4), the Bosnia/Herzegovina cohort had the lowest ideal CVH (6-7 metrics) (2%), closely followed by the US cohort (3%). 25,33,[46][47][48]52,53 As observed in US studies, the poorest metric in other national surveys was diet, except for Luxembourgian and Korean surveys, which did not use the AHA 2020 estimation for ideal healthy diet. 25,48 Across all the national surveys, the United States had the lowest prevalence of ideal diet, cholesterol level, and BMI and the highest prevalence of only ideal smoking (ie, nonsmokers for at least 1 year).…”

“…It appears that the low frequency of ideal CVH is particularly dire in developing countries. Four studies 46,50,52,54 included in this review were 1 9 9 3 X a n t h a k is , conducted in cohorts residing in developing nations (India, Iran, Bosnia/Herzegovina, and Ecuador). Only 4% and 2% of participants in studies conducted, respectively, in Ecuador and Bosnia/Herzegovina achieved 6 or more of ideal CVH metrics, whereas in the Iranian study, this figure was less than 1%.…”

“…The prevalence measures inadequately capture the population who have rapidly deteriorating cardiovascular health and have not yet developed the CVDs. Therefore, indices such as ideal cardiometabolic metrics have come out recently that include other determinants such as diets and lifestyle factors,8 and capture the population with less than an ideal cardiovascular health and urge an immediate intervention at the population level using counselling, lifestyle advice and pharmacotherapy. The present study shows a low prevalence of ideal cardiovascular health factors among the semiurban subjects, and that prevalence of meeting all seven cardiovascular health metrics was extremely low.…”
