Low‐profile wideband dual‐polarized microstrip antenna element for 5G communication

Abstract: A low-profile wideband dual-polarized microstrip antenna is presented for 5G communication. Using a periodical diamond structure, both low profile and wideband performance have been achieved with high port isolation. Relative bandwidths of 53.4% and 54.0% are obtained for two polarizations with a low profile of 0.047λ 0 , where λ 0 is the free space wavelength at the center frequency of 4.18 GHz. The dual aperture coupling method is adopted for each polarization direction and high-order modes are stimulated ac… Show more

“…1,2 Broadband dual-polarized antennas having desired features of excellent impedance matching, steady radiation pattern, stable, and high gain are required to meet practical applications for mobile communication. [3][4][5] Various antennas, such as a stacked patch antenna, 6 a suspended patch antenna, 7 and an inductor-end slot antenna 8 had been proposed for the base station. Dipole antennas are also widely employed for mobile communication because of the performances of good impedance matching and stable radiation pattern.…”

“…Then, the metasurface antennas were studied extensively due to their desired features such as low-profile structure, stable radiation performance, high efficiency, and good cross-polarizations. Recently, metasurface antennas have been designed to accommodate different communication systems including 5G and 5G WiFi [ 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ]. The bandwidth was extended to 28% in [ 29 ].…”
