Abstract:Abnormal lightening of the oxygen isotope ratio (δ18O) of planktonic foraminifera during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, ∼21 kyr BP) suggests that the Japan Sea had experienced a low sea surface salinity event at that time. However, the exact value and timing of minimum salinity have been controversial so far. To address this issue, we adopt a simple box model and reconstruct the sea surface salinity in the Japan Sea (SJP) over the past 35 kyr with a focus on the LGM period. In particular, as input data for the… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
