Low temperature one-step synthesis of cobalt nanowires encapsulated in carbon

Abstract: The one-step method of carbon nanotubes filled with continuous cobalt nanowires (CoF-CNT) synthesis is presented. Co/ZSM-5 (8 wt% Co) was used as catalyst for CoF-CNT production by methane decomposition at the temperature of 400°C and 800°C at atmospheric pressure in a conventional gas-flow system. The average diameter of the CoF-CNT is about 25 and 40 nm for products obtained at 400°C and at 800°C, respectively. The average size of coherently scattering domains along the normal to graphite layers L c , the in… Show more

“…Thus, the similar catalytic ability in the low-temperature graphitization may be expected for Co NPs [19][20][21]. In addition, C film containing Co NPs (referred to a Co-C film hereafter) attracts the great interest for various applications such as magnetic data storage and magnetic resonance imaging [22]. In what follows, we will deal with the spontaneous graphitization at RT by simple one-step syntheses of Co-C films for the first time, leading to a strategy to achieve the ultra-low temperature graphene growth.…”

“…The diffraction peak obtained at 2θ = 27.15° (002) corresponds to the carbon[JCPDS No. 08-0415]formed from the plastic waste [32]. In view of the fact that, during the manufacture of electrical switches from bakelite, various additives were added to obtain the required 220), (311) re ections of the face-centered cubic structure of metallic silver with the standard JCPDS card No.…”

“…These peaks were ascribed to hematite [14]. The XRD pattern of the ferrocene-derived carbon exhibited a broad reflection at d 002 = 3.4 Å (Figure 3, top), signaling the formation of amorphous carbon [12]. Raman spectroscopy gave the characteristic D (1378 cm −1 ) and G (1580 cm −1 ) bands with an intensity ratio of I D /I G~0 .8 (Figure 3, bottom), thus also signaling the formation of amorphous carbon [13].…”
