Low volatility antioxidants for scorch protection of polyurethane foams

Abstract: Work continues to be done to provide effective stabilization of flexible bun stock formulations required by the reduction of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) blowing agents, the associated increase of water content, and increased exotherm. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) has served well as an antioxidant. However, its high volatility and tendency to form highly colored by‐products have limited its versatility.
