LRIG2 expression and prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract: The human leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains 2 (LRIG2) protein has been shown to be of prognostic value in several types of human cancer, however, the expression profiles of LRIG2 have not been described in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The present study evaluated the mRNA expression of LRIG2 in tumor specimens obtained from 39 NSCLC patients by SYBR Green quantitative polymerase chain reaction and the protein expression of LRIG2 in formalin-fixed paraffin sections obtained from 116 NSC… Show more

“…The patient samples and the study approval were discussed as previously described. 21 In this study, 36 NSCLC fresh tissue samples and 182 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) NSCLC tissue samples were obtained between December 2001 and April 2012 from Liaoning Medical University Affiliated First Hospital in China. The patients who had histories of other solid tumors, and/or had incomplete clinicopathological and follow-up data were excluded.…”

“…Moreover, all samples were randomly selected regardless of age, gender, or duration of the diseases, and all cases were diagnosed pathologically. 21 All cases were classified according to the World Health Organization (WHO) revised proposal for histological types of lung cancer. 24 The study was performed with respect to the ethical standards of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki, as revised in 2000 and was approved by the Ethics Committee of Liaoning Medical University in China.…”

“…In non-small cell lung cancer, LRIG2 mRNA and protein expression were found to be decreased compared to adjacent tissue. Here again, high cytoplasmic staining of LRIG2 was found to be an independent predictor of poor five year survival (Wang et al, 2014). …”

“…Its expression level may have a potential role in the pathogenesis of lung cancer and represents a prognostic value (Wang et al . ). In addition, the RET gene (with which LRIG2 interacts) was also identified as one of the most promising candidate genes underlying this trait in our previous single SNP‐based genome‐wide association study within the same genotype data used here (unpublished data).…”
