Successive mini-cuttings collection in Piptocarpha angustifolia mini-stumps: effects on maturation, adventitious root induction and root vigor

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The low percentage of seed germination and adventitious root induction in cuttings ofPiptocarpha angustifolia has limited its silvicultural use. Thus, we studied the effect of tissue maturation on successive collections of mini-cuttings grown in a semi-hydroponic system. Likewise, we evaluated potential multiplication via the mini-cutting technique by assessing the survival and productivity of ministumps as well as the formation of adventitious roots and the root vigor. We made 32 sprout collections … Show more

“…The mini-cuttings technique aiming propagation of ecological interest species has generated satisfactory results, such as those observed in the works developed for Calophyllum brasiliense (SILVA et al, 2010), Liquidambar styraciflua (WENDLING et al, 2010) and Piptocarpha angustifolia (STUEPP et al, 2017). According to Xavier et al (2003) the mini-cuttings technique provides higher quality, higher velocity and higher rooting percentages for propagules when compared to the conventional cuttings technique.…”

“…According to Dias et al (2011), increased stem sugar content may indicate that it acted as a source of photoassimilates and, including soluble sugars, to promote sprouting (HARTMANN et al, 2011). It should be emphasized that the mini-cuttings technique favors the juvenility maintenance of these propagules, thus reducing the effects generated by maturation in woody species (FRAGOSO et al, 2016;STUEPP et al, 2017).…”

“…In terms of chemical properties, the soil has fertility between medium and high (Table 1). The plants were produced using mini-cuttings technique (STUEPP et al, 2017), with clonal minigarden formed by plants previously produced by traditional cuttings techniq Growth in diameter and height of Piptocarpha angustifolia clonal plants evaluated at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after planting in Pinhais, state of Paraná, Brazil. Averages followed by the same letter do not differ between them according to the Tukey test at 5% of probability.…”
