“…Three species of Onchocerca have been reported to occur in camels: O. fasciata (Cheema et al ., ), Onchocerca armillata and Onchocerca gutturosa (Hussein et al ., ), of which O. fasciata is the most prevalent. However, there have been only a few reports on onchocerciasis in camels, and these studies have mainly addressed the morphology of Onchocerca (Johnston, ; Henry & Masson, ; Bain & Nasher, ), or have assessed the prevalence of the disease or its effects by determining the distribution of microfilariae in the skin (Schillhorn‐van‐veen et al ., ; Sinnary & Hussein, ). Reports indicate that the prevalence of the disease varies between 5.82% and 59% among dromedaries (Mizan Zadeh, ; Moghaddar & Zahedie, ; Anvari ‐ Tafti et al ., ; Rad et al ., ; Farjanikish et al ., ), whereas Onchocerciasis also occurs in China, where it is mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia, because the host of the parasite [ C. bactrianus , numbering more than 2 million in China, with this decreasing markedly to 320 thousand (Yu, )] is mostly distributed in China and Mongolia, with half occurring in Inner Mongolia (Li et al ., ; Banerjee et al ., ).…”
