Caries Color, Extent, and Preoperative Pain as Predictors of Pulp Status in Primary Teeth

Abstract: This study aimed to assess the relationship between preoperative pain status, caries extent, and caries color and the ability to achieve hemostasis at the canal orifices during pulp therapy access in primary teeth. Study Design: Eighty primary molar teeth with extremely deep caries extending to the pulp (based on bitewing radiography) were investigated in 66 children. The teeth with clear radiographic and clinical signs indicating the involvement of the radicular pulp were excluded. The history of preoperative… Show more

“…This difference was significantly higher in Group 2. This was also observed in other studies using TAP in LSTR (Duanduan et al (2013), [29] Hossain et al (2020) [30] Doneria et al (2017), [31] Grewal et al (2018) [32] ) [Table 3]. No radiographic pathology was associated with the primary or underlying permanent tooth germ.…”

“…In the present study, 60 children in the age group of 3-8 years were selected according to inclusion criteria after screening 95 patients. These patients were randomly allocated into Group 1 (30) and Group 2 (30). At the end of 12 months, 26 and 25 patients were left and analysed in Groups 1 and 2, respectively [Figure 4].…”

“…We chose to study the levels of different biomarkers in the irreversible acute and chronic pulpal pathology of primary teeth because the reversible stages of pulpal inflammation in primary dentition are short in time and are not usually diagnosed due to the rapid evolution of the inflammation of irreversible pathology, and due to the late presentation of the patient at the dental clinic. Reversible stages of pulp inflammation are, in general, symptomless, or they are characterized by less intense and shorter episodes of pain, which can lead a patient to not seek immediate dental treatment [11].…”
