Dynamic Changes Of Body Image And Quality Of Life In Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract: Dynamic changes of body image and quality of life (QoL) in breast cancer patients were not commonly investigated. We aimed to compare the dynamic changes in QoL and body image of breast cancer survivors receiving breast-conserving surgery or total mastectomy within 5-10 years after surgery. Methods: Patients with non-metastatic breast cancer who received surgery were invited to complete the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire and the Body Image Scale (BIS) within 10 year… Show more

“…Thus, the score of each domain ranges from 4 to 20. With two additional locally specific items (being respected and eating), the Taiwanese version of the WHOQOL-BREF has been validated to exhibit a good test–retest reliability (correlation coefficient > 0.75), good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach’s α > 0.91), and good construct validity in patients with several malignancies [ 23 , 24 , 25 ].…”

“…The participants were stratified into two categories for analysis: those with NMIBC and those with MIBC or more severe conditions. A kernel-type smoother was utilized to illustrate the dynamic changes of each item and the domain scores via the open access software, iSQOL [ 25 , 26 ]. The timeline of the dynamic changes (duration to date for each measurement/interview) was measured in months since the diagnosis of bladder cancer.…”

“…Improvements in early detection and treatment of BC with the absence of metastasis have led to a ve yearsa survival rate 89% globally, and the life expectancy of BC survivors has increased to nearly 23 years [8,66]. Therefore, important health outcomes such as Quality of life (QoL) are a concern at the rst clinical consultation to maintain long time sustainable healthy outcomes among BC survivors [7,8,21,41,65].…”

“…Such studies have generally had examined short-term follow-up in Asian populations as well as globally [25,33,65,67]. The results of this study will help healthcare teams update and determine when and how to improve QoL among women with different types of mastectomies and BR since the choice of surgical treatment heavily in uences these patients' long-term QoL, psychological status, and BI [8,41,51,65]. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe and compare the dynamic changes in QoL, psychological status, and BI of women who have undergone BC surgery along with identifying the interaction between different time points, various types of BC surgery, and the determinants of QoL within an 8-year followup period.…”
