External ventricular drainage combined with continuous lumbar drainage in the treatment of ventricular hemorrhage

Abstract: Objective: Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is characterized by acute onset, rapid progression, and high disability and mortality rates. In this study, we investigated the clinical effect of external ventricular drainage combined with continuous lumbar drainage in IVH treatments. Methods: 114 patients with IVH treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College from January 2015 to December 2017, were included in the study. Based on… Show more

“…Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), as a clinically common severe cerebrovascular disease, is characterized by rapid onset, high mortality and disability. 12 It is one of the most challenging diseases for neurosurgeons. Despite the continuous improvement of treatment methods for IVH in recent years, the success rate is low and the complication rate is high.…”

“…Lumbar cistern drainage (LCD) is widely used in neurosurgery as an effective way to treat postoperative meningitis [1], vasospasm of subarachnoid hemorrhage [2,3], ventricular system hemorrhage [4] and reduction of intracranial pressure in patients with severe craniocerebral trauma [5]. Of note, meningitis after neurosurgical craniotomy is a common complication that affects the prognosis and length of stay of patients [6].…”
