Background: Injectable hormonal contraception was a major risk factor for breast cancer. The content of the progestin hormone in injection hormonal contraceptives can affect the uncontrolled growth of breast tissue, leading to breast cancer. This study aims to analyze the magnitude of the effect of injection hormonal contraception on the incidence of breast cancer with a meta-analysis study. Method: This research is a systematic review and used a Prisma flow diagram. The process of searching for articles through a database of journals which includes: PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar by selecting articles published in 2010-2020. Keywords used include: “ Women Aged 15-80 Years” OR “Women of Menopause” AND “Birth control injections” AND “Breast Cancer”. The inclusion criteria included full-text articles with a case-control study design, articles using English, and multivariate analysis with adjusted odds ratios. Artikel fulfills the requirements for analysis using Revman 5.3 Result: There were 6 articles with the case-control study. A meta-analysis of 6 case-control studies showed that the use of injectable hormonal contraception had a 1.37 times risk of developing breast cancer compared with women using non-hormonal contraception (aOR 1.37; 95% CI 1.09 to 1.71; p = 0.006). Conclusion: Injectable hormonal contraceptives can increase the incidence of breast cancer.

Background: Oral contraceptives and injections are the main risk factors for breast cancer. The content of the hormones estrogen and progesterone in oral contraceptives and progestin in injection contraceptives can affect uncontrolled growth of breast tissue, leading to breast cancer. This study aims to analyze the magnitude of the effect of oral contraceptives and injection on the incidence of breast cancer by means of a meta-analysis study. Subjects and Method: This was a systematic review and meta-analysis conducted with PRISMA flow diagrams. Search for articles through journal databases includes: PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar by selecting articles published in 2010-2020. The keywords used were "Women Aged 15-80 Years" AND "Contraceptive Pills" OR "Birth control injections" AND "Breast Cancer". The inclusion criteria were full text articles with observational study design, articles in English, and multivariate analysis used with adjusted odds ratios. Articles that meet the requirements are analyzed using the Revman 5.3 application. Results:A meta-analysis of 15 observational studies showed that oral contraceptives had a 1.30 times risk of developing breast cancer compared with women using non-hormonal contraceptives (aOR= 1.30; 95% CI= 1.13 to 1.50; p= 0.0002). A meta-analysis of 6 observational studies showed injectable contraceptives had a 1.37 times risk of developing breast cancer compared to using non-hormonal contraceptives (aOR= 1.37; 95% CI= 1.09 to 1.71; p= 0.006). Conclusion:Oral hormonal contraceptives and injections have a weak effect on the incidence of breast cancer.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent cancer in Iranian females. Due to the changes in lifestyle and reproductive risk factors, the BC incidence rate has been rapidly increasing. Knowing risk factors of BC could significantly contribute to improve preventive behaviors. To investigate the relationship between menstrual and reproductive factors and BC in Iranian female population. Methods: Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and SID as well as references of included studies were searched. Among relevant published observational studies, 27 studies met the inclusion criteria. Pooled risk estimates for the risk factors were determined using random-effects models due to the presence of substantial heterogeneity (P < 0.05). Results: All of the selected studies had case–control design. There was a positive relationship between maternal age at first pregnancy and risk of BC (OR = 1.79 95% CI: 1.36–2.35). Also, menopausal status was associated with higher risk of BC (OR = 1.60 95% CI: 1.18–2.17), whereas, there was no association between menarche age and increased risk of BC (OR = 0.55 95% CI: 0.29–1.03). History of abortion (OR = 1.21 95% CI: 0.97–1.5), nulliparity (OR = 1.43 95% CI: 0.89–2.31), and breastfeeding history (OR = 0.68 95% CI: 0.42–1.09) were not associated with BC risk. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that age at the first pregnancy and menopausal status were significantly associated with BC risk among Iranian women, whereas menarche age, nulliparity, and history of breastfeeding were not. In regard to the history of abortion, our findings revealed no association with BC, but in high-quality studies, this relationship was significant.
