A new species, Bulbophyllum gopalianum, is described from the montane sub‐tropical forest of Mizoram (India) in the westernmost area of the Indo‐Myanmar biodiversity hotspot. The new species belongs to the section Lemniscata and shows close morphological affinity to B. suavissimum and B. shanicum. A detailed description, diagnosis, phenology, taxonomic notes and conservation assessment are presented. The new species is assessed as critically endangered (CR) based on its very small and restricted population size.

Fruit set in the orchids in the wild in Bhutan seems to be generally higher than in surrounding countries in Asia. To obtain more knowledge on local pollinators in Bhutan, pollinators were photographed in the private Orchidarium, over a period of six years. A total of 10 insect species, belonging to the orders of Diptera (true flies), Hymenoptera (ants, bees, wasps) and Coleoptera (beetle), were seen pollinating the flowers of 15 different orchid species (14 epiphytic and 1 terrestrial). Several pollinators are reported for the first time as the pollinators of orchids. Our study provides a first glimpse into the pollination biology of Bhutanese orchids and could be used for the reintroduction of the locally extinct orchid pollinators elsewhere in Asia.

Two new species of Bulbophyllum, namely, B. gurungianum (sect. Biseta) and B. punakhaense (sect. Brachyrantha) are described and illustrated. Bulbophyllum gurungianum is similar to B. brevispicatum and B. sonii but differs strikingly by having pseudobulbs placed distantly on the rhizome, a shorter peduncle, and oblong petals with a ciliated margin. Bulbophyllum punakhaense is morphologically similar to B. farreri, B. thaiorum, and B. mamillatum, but can be easily distinguished by its larger leaves, pseudobulbs distantly placed on the rhizome, longer peduncle, and oblong-lanceolate petals with shortly papillate margin towards the apex. We provide a detailed description of each species, and information on their distribution, ecology, and conservation status.

Abstract: Bulbophyllum trongsaense is described as a new species from Trongsa district of Bhutan. Detailed morphological description, distribution, phenology, ecology and colour photographs are provided along with comparison with B. amplifolium to which it shows closest affinity.
