<p><strong><em>Peliosanthes crassicoronata </em></strong><strong>(Asparagaceae), a new species from southern Vietnam</strong></p>

Abstract

Peliosanthes crassicoronata is described and illustrated as a new species from southern Vietnam. It somewhat resembles P. macrostegia in having drooping bowl-shaped purplish flowers, but is readily distinguishable by the larger leaves with more numerous longitudinal veins, internally thickly ribbed staminal corona, and pistil with a hexagonal ovary and an indistinct style. The phylogenetic relationship of the new species was inferred from an analysis of chloroplast and nuclear DNA sequences.

Peliosanthes cupuliformis (Asparagaceae), a new species from central Laos

“…Presently more than half of the known Peliosanthes species are reported from eastern Indochina, including Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (Tanaka , , b, Averyanov and Tanaka , , Averyanov et al , , , b, , b, , Vislobokov , Nguyen et al , Vislobokov et al ), suggesting that eastern Indochina is a hotspot for the diversity and diversification of the genus. New and noteworthy species of Ophiopogon and Peliosanthes (Asparagaceae) from Laos, Vietnam and Thailand

A similar situation is found in Aspidistra Ker Gawler (1822: 628), another Asian member of Ophiopogoneae, or Nolinoideae (Lang et al 1999, Bogner and Arnautov 2004, Tillich 2005, 2014, Averyanov and Tillich 2014, Vislobokov et al 2014, Nguyen et al 2017a, Tanaka 2017).…”
