Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and Its Predictors Among HIV-Exposed Infants at an Outpatient Clinic for HIV/AIDS in Vietnam

Abstract: Background: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is decreasing worldwide; however, achieving the MTCT elimination target of 2% by 2020 and 0% by 2030 is challenging in resource-limited countries. The purpose of this study is to determine the evolution of the HIV transmission rate in infants from 2007 to 2018 and to identify the risk factors of HIV transmission among HIV-exposed infants in Vietnam. Patients and Methods: A prospective cohort study of 608 HIV-exposed infants w… Show more

“…HIV testing during pregnancy and taking antiretroviral drugs (ARTs) help prevent HIV transmission from mother to child (MTCT). 3,4 However, in Ethiopia's Amhara region, only 24% of HIV-positive pregnant women have received the medication needed to prevent MTCT. 5 Disease progression is aggressive in the first months of life in infants who acquired the infection in utero or around delivery.…”

“…HIV transmission from an HIV-positive mother from mother to child can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. If no intervention is carried out, transmission ranges are from 15% to 45% [6]. This research was conducted to determine the level of knowledge of students class of 2017 regarding the transmission of HIV / AIDS from mother to child because they will soon undergo clinical education at the hospital and will face HIV / AIDS sufferers directly.…”
