The effects and mechanisms of a biosynthetic ginsenoside 3β,12β-Di-O-Glc-PPD on non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract: BackgroundA biosynthetic ginsenoside, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-12-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-dammar-24-ene-3β, 12β, 20S-triol (C3C12PPD), showed antitumor activity against many tumor cells in vitro, especially had better anti-lung cancer activity than Rg3 in vitro and in vivo. However, the effects and molecular mechanisms of C3C12PPD on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. According to previous studies, we hypothesized ginsenoside C3C12PPD could inhibit the tumor growth of NSCLC by targeting proliferatio… Show more

“…Consequently, most ginsenoside studies on lung cancer have been focused on NSCLC. A recent study reported that C 3 C 12 PPD, a newly discovered ginsenoside, inhibited cell growth, proliferation, migration, and tube formation of NSCLC in vivo and in vitro by inhibiting several signaling pathways, such as Raf/MEK/ERK, AKT/mTOR, and AKT/GSK-3 β / β -catenin [ 113 ]. Furthermore, CK suppressed cell viability by downregulating HIF-1 α mediated glucose metabolism and increased autophagy-mediated apoptosis via AMPK-mTOR and JNK signaling pathways in NSCLC [ 114 ].…”

“…Herbal medicines are gaining popularity for the treatment of chronic and complex diseases as it works by hitting multiple molecular targets to modulate signaling pathways. An example of this is the study carried out by Huang [33] in which a biosynthetic ginsenoside mediated lung cancer by inhibiting Raf/MEK/ERK signaling pathway. Also, this is evident in the case of Marsdenia tenacissima extract suppressed lung cancer through ERK activation [34].…”
