The Perspective of Diagnostic and Prognostic Values of Lipoxygenases mRNA Expression in Colon Adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Background: This study was mainly to explore and study the potential application of lipoxygenases (ALOX) family genes in the diagnostic and prognostic values of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD). Methods: Data sets related to the ALOX genes of COAD were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the University of California, Santa Cruz Xena browser. Then, the relevant biological information was downloaded from the public data platform. Finally, the bioinformatics technologies and clinical verification were employed t… Show more

“…ROC curve analysis showed significantly high clinical diagnostic potential of the aforementioned immunoresolvents, particularly of resolvin D1. Therefore, our results support the hypotheses presented by previous studies, which suggest that genetic expression of LOX and/or LOX-derived eicosanoids may be significantly associated with carcinogenesis in addition to being promising biomarkers of various types of solid malignancies ( 34 , 35 ). We emphasize that our results are preliminary considering the small sample size of our study; further large-scale clinical studies are warranted to validate and characterize the diagnostic potential of the aforementioned immunoresolvents in patients with pancreatic cancer.…”

“…For instance, ALOXE3, which encodes arachidonate lipoxygenase3, can serve as a potential predictive biomarker for colon adenocarcinoma patients. Low expression of ALOXE3 had a favorable prognosis of COAD (11). Goḿez-Maldonado et al identified EFNA3, a member of the ephrin type A ligands, is induced by hypoxia-inducible factor in human tumors and this induction is predictive of poor prognosis and increased risk of metastasis in breast cancer patients (12).…”

“…The target ULBP1 gene sequence was: upstream, 5′-CACACACTGTCTTTGCTATGAC-3'; downstream, 5′- CCAGGTTTTTGTGACATTGACT-3'. The relative expression level of ULBP1 gene was performed according to previous descript method of 2-∆∆ Cq ( Ruan et al, 2020a ).…”
