Virchow’s node: a case report of an extremely rare presentation of metastasis of adenocarcinoma with mucinous features from the colon

Abstract: Colon cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related mortality. Adenocarcinoma with mucinous features accounts for 10–15% of colon carcinoma. Distal nodal metastatic colorectal cancer is uncommon, and metastasis of colorectal cancer to the left supraclavicular lymph node is extremely rare without signs of metastatic organ involvement. We present a case of a 54-year-old Caucasian male with colonic adenocarcinoma that presented initially as a left-sided neck mass that had progressively increased in si… Show more

“…Multivariate Cox regression shows that M stage is an independent prognostic factor of the three survival styles. Typically, the most common sites of rectal cancer metastasis are regional lymph nodes, liver, lung, bone and brain [47]. Haematogenous metastasis is very common in rectal cancer metastasis.…”

“…CRC with distant lymph node metastasis is very rare. Although a few cases[ 3 - 6 ] of synchronous supraclavicular lymph node metastases from colorectal carcinoma have been reported (Table 1 ), most were complicated with multiple metastases or treated exclusively with chemotherapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of lymph node dissection combined with chemotherapy to treat isolated synchronous Virchow’s lymph node metastasis from sigmoid cancer (Table 2 ).…”
