Abstract:Abstract:In Trypanosoma brucei, a parasite that causes African trypanosomiasis in humans (sleeping sickness) and in livestock (nagana) throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the trypanosome alternative oxidase (TAO) is essential for the respiration of bloodstream form parasites (i.e. the human-infective form).
