Light pollution is an environmental issue of rapidly increasing concern. Among the various types of light pollution, a major issue in residential areas is discomfort glare due to light trespass. Discomfort glare makes seeing and sleeping in a room difficult. Typical discomfort glare evaluation methods include the Daylight Glare Index and the Unified Glare Rating. However, no evaluation method exists for discomfort glare from artificial lighting entering through a window at night, i.e. light trespass. Therefore, this study investigated the existing methods for evaluating discomfort glare and subjective evaluation methods related to the characteristics of light trespass. We also examined the possible application of lighting simulation software programs for light trespass evaluation. We then performed a subjective evaluation of discomfort glare due to light trespass, compared the experimental values to our calculated values, and finally suggested a modified formula for evaluating light trespass.

Vision-simulated imagery―the process of generating images that mimic the human visual system―is a valuable tool with a wide spectrum of possible applications, including visual acuity measurements, personalized planning of corrective lenses and surgeries, vision-correcting displays, vision-related hardware development, and extended reality discomfort reduction. A critical property of human vision is that it is imperfect because of the highly influential wavefront aberrations that vary from person to person. This study provides an overview of the existing computational image generation techniques that properly simulate human vision in the presence of wavefront aberrations. These algorithms typically apply ray tracing with a detailed description of the simulated eye or utilize the point-spread function of the eye to perform convolution on the input image. Based on the description of the vision simulation techniques, several of their characteristic features have been evaluated and some potential application areas and research directions have been outlined.

The quality of lighting in a room will affect visual comfort. It is determined by light beam that hits observer's eyes generating a specific response. Meanwhile, the indicator that represents visual comfort is glare, especially discomfort glare. Glare index in a room, one of them, is stated by Unified Glare Rating (UGR) value affected by the ratio of glare source's luminance and background in a specific solid angle and position between observer and luminaire. As a result, it is needed to conduct an assessment to know glare potency in a room. The popular method measuring UGR is by analyzing pixel value from High Dynamic Range (HDR) image captured by 180-degree camera. At the same time, the implementation of 360-degree camera in assessing photometry has also been developed. However, the implementation is not been applied to measure glare yet. Therefore, this paper is aimed to implement 360-degree camera determining UGR value of HDR image. It is conducted by comparing the UGR value to 180-degree camera image. The result shows the significant irrelevance of both cameras. Statistical analysis on Lmean and Lstd found that the coefficient of determination is less than one and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is bigger than 0.1, while F-test and T-test results are less than 0.05. The value of Coefficient Variation (CV) 180-degree camera is bigger than 360-degree camera which stated the data of luminance value is more spread out. It shows that the use of 360degree camera with per-pixel analysis on HDR image to measure glare is not appropriate.
