“…Systematic studies clearly indicate that the effect of modifier oxides on emission properties of rare earth ions in different glass matrices is significant [15]. Influence of modifier oxides M 2 O where M denotes Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs [16], MO where M = Ca, Sr, Ba [17,18], M 2 O 3 where M = Al or Ga [19] and MO 2 where M = Te, Ge, Si [20] on local Materials 2020, 13, 4422 2 of 13 structure of glasses and their multifunctional properties and potential applications has been presented and discussed. Special attention has been paid to germanate glasses with different glass-modifiers.…”

“…If we compare the spectroscopic properties determined for systems doped with Eu 3+ ions, it can be stated that due to the highest value of luminescence lifetime for 5 D 0 state, the glass with BaO is a good candidate for red-emitting materials, that may find potential use in photonic devices. According to previous studies, our phosphate system is characterized by longer luminesce lifetime than lead-free borate and germanate glasses [ 82 , 83 ]. The value of lifetime for 5 D 0 state of Eu 3+ ions in phosphate glass is close to the value evaluated for borate (1.81 ms) and silicate (2.17) systems with BaO as oxide modifier [ 77 , 78 ].…”

“…30 This indicates large thermal stability parameter △T. 31,32 Based on the available literatures data, in order to provide a wider range of operating temperatures and avoid crystallization during fiber drawing, thermal stability △T of the investigated glasses should be higher than 100 • C.
