: Therelationshipbetweentheenergylevelposition,energysplittingofthe s 1 p 1 configurationofselected cationsandahostwasstudied.Resultsindicatedthatthepositionofthe A, B,and C bandsofSn 2+ andthe A and B bandsofIn + andTl + decreasedlinearlywithanincreaseintheenvironmentfactor(h e)ofthehost.Acorresponding empiricalformulawasdetermined.Calculatedvaluesforthe A and B bandsofthefree鄄ionsIn + andTl + wereingood agreementwithexperimentalresults.Thelargesterrorwasfromthe B bandofTl + andthedeviationratiowasonly-7.34%.Spacingsfortheenergylevels A, B,and C becomesmallerbecausehighenergylevelenergiesdropfasteras h e increases.Bycomparison,wefoundthatthesensitivitiesofthe A and B bandenergiesofSn 2+ ,In + ,andTl + tothehost weredifferent.ThegreatestchangewasobservedfortheSn 2+ ionandtheIn + ionenergychangewasthesmallest.More importantly,wefoundthatthe A, B,and C bandenergiessplittingtendencyforSn 2+ ,In + ,andTl + alsodecreasedas h e increasedevenwithoutsplitting.
