Abstract:Lung ischemia‐reperfusion injury (LIRI) stimulates airway vagal chemosensors. We hypothesize that the stimulation is mediated by increased production of oxygen free radicals (OFRs). Two questions are asked: 1) Does increased production of OFRs by injecting a mixture of xanthine/xanthine oxidase into the receptive field stimulate airway chemosensors? 2) Can reduction of OFRs by intravenous infusion of superoxide dismutase (SOD) prevent LIRI induced chemosensor stimulation? Rabbits were anesthetized, the lungs w… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
