Luteolin, a food‐derived flavonoid, suppresses adipocyte‐dependent activation of macrophages by inhibiting JNK activation

Abstract: a b s t r a c tInteraction between adipocytes and macrophages contributes to the development of insulin resistance in obese adipose tissues. In this study, we examined whether luteolin, food-derived flavonoid, could suppress the production of inflammatory mediators of the interaction between adipocytes and macrophages. Experiments using a coculture system of adipocytes and macrophages showed that luteolin suppressed the production of inflammatory mediators. In addition, activated macrophages were targets for t… Show more

“…Phenolic flavonoids found in plants and fruits have been widely studied and shown to have beneficial effects on human health (Ando et al, 2009;Kim et al, 2006;Pinent et al, 2005). The main active component in green tea, (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), has shown inhibitory effects on weight gain in rat models (Ashida et al, 2004;Bose et al, 2008;Chen et al, 2009;Diepvens et al, 2006;Nagao et al, 2009;Richard et al, 2009;Wolfram et al, 2005).…”

“…Many polyphenols that suppress macrophage functions have been reported. 42,43) Arthritis is often accompanied by bacterial/viral infection, which causes macrophage activation. CS is a Di-4S, the disaccharide unit of CS-A, is sulfated on C-4 of the galactosamine, whereas Di-6S, the disaccharide unit of CS-C, is sulfated on C-6 of the galactosamine.…”
