“…i), a feature which was interpreted by Reed et al as supporting a lymphatic origin. However, the histogenesis in respect ofthe cell of origin of postmastectomy lymphangiosarcoma is still in dispute, in spite of an increasing number of ultrastructural studies (Winkler, 1975;Dubin et al, 1974); Laugier et al, 1973;Merrick et al, 1971;Silverberg et al, 1971;Friederici & Roberts, 1967;Toujas et al, 1967;Gray et al, 1966). Rosai et al (1976) have recently described the fine structure of 5 angiosarcomas ofthe face and scalp in the elderly.…”

“…Chronic lymphedema may result in the rare complication of lymphangiosarcoma. 10 Our case demonstrates that congenital AV fistulas may give rise to recurrent, painful ulcers. If it is true that AV fistulas represent a lack of differentiation of the primitive capillary network, then this failure to differentiate may additionally lead to altered hemodynamics within the affected area, manifested by ulcers.…”

“…When some previous accounts of the ultrastructure of angiosarcomas associated with lymphoedema are studied critically it is apparent that they conform in many respects to our case (Govonie ef al. 1981, Dubin, Creehan & Headington 1974. We believe it is reasonable to accept that they too were true vascular neoplasms.…”
