“…In 1970, Riesco reported that ALC was positively associated with the "curability" of a variety of cancers [16]. Similar associations between ALC and survival have been reported for a wide variety of epithelial, connective tissue and lymphoid cancers [17], including ovarian cancer [18,19]. In addition to survival, ALC has been associated with response to various cancer treatments, including chemotherapy [20] and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for hematopoietic [15] and epithelial cancers [21,22].…”

“…A higher neutrophil count, as well as total white blood cell count (WBC), and a lower lymphocyte count predict poorer survival. [8][9][10][11][12] Notably, Milne et al found that ovarian cancer cases had significantly decreased lymphocytes at diagnosis compared to lymphocyte levels measured two years prior to diagnosis and that the decline was greater in women with higher stage, ascites, and suboptimal debulking. [11] In agreement, we found significantly lower lymphocyte counts and higher neutrophil counts and NLR associated with greater tumor grade and stage, presence of ascites, and bilateral disease.…”

“…A higher neutrophil count, as well as total white blood cell count (WBC), and a lower lymphocyte count predict poorer survival. [8][9][10][11][12] That CA125 may bind to certain leukocyte sub-populations suggests a relationship between NLR and CA125 that is much stronger than the two simply being complementary markers. [13] In this study, we have conducted a more detailed examination of pre-operative WBC, differential counts, and the NLR in women with ovarian cancer and their correlations with tumor features, CA125, epidemiologic factors, and overall survival.…”

“…Stone et al [12] also demonstrated that anti-IL-6 antibody treatment can suppress the tumor growth by decreasing the platelet counts in ovarian cancer patients. Since Riesco reported that peripheral lymphocytes were positively associated with the Bcurability^of a variety of cancers [34], many studies have suggested that lymphocytes are predictors of survival in ovarian cancer patients [35,36]. T lymphocytes form the major component of the cellular immune response and are essential for anti-tumor immunity [37].…”
