Abstract:We propose a new class of mathematical structures called (m, n)semirings (which generalize the usual semirings), and describe their basic properties. We define partial ordering and generalize the concepts of congruence, homomorphism, etc., for (m, n)-semirings. Following earlier work by Rao [19], we consider systems made up of several components whose failures may cause it to fail, and represent the set of such systems algebraically as an (m, n)-semiring. Based on the characteristics of these components, we pr… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
