Lifetime measurements concerning the relaxed excited state of the perturbed and the unperturbed M-center in X-ray colored NaCI:CaCl, samples, give the following results: a) the decay spectra are characterized by two components, due to the perturbed ((18.2 f 0.5) 11s a t 9 K)) and to the unperturbed ((26.5 -f 0.5) ns at 9 K ) M-center respectively, in the temperature range 9 to 320 K : the component due to the perturbed M-center disappears a t higher temperatures; b) the lifetime of the M-perturbed center is a decreasing function of the temperature contrary to what happens in KCl samples doped with divalent impurities, where it is constant up to room temperature; c) no difference from the data obtained in undoped NaCl samples is noted for the unperturbed M-center and it is shown, for the first time, that its lifetime decreases above 310 K; d) the simple scheme of a two-channel decay process is not valid for the perturbed M-center whereas it enables to fit with accuracy the data concerning the unperturbed M-center (by assuming a de-excitation energy value equal to (0.46 -J = 0.02) eV). An analysis of the optical properties of the M-perturbed center in NaCl:CaCl, samples leads to the assumption that the perturbative effect is low compared to that observed in KCl doped with divalent impurities: in particular, it seems to be inefficient as regards the absorption properties; this hypothesis also enables to explain the absence of formation of Z,-centers in the same samples.Des mesures, concernant 1'6tat excite relax6 du centre M perturb6 et relax6 dans le NaCl:CaCl, color6 par rayonnement X, ont don& les rhsultats suivants: a) les spectres de temps de vie sont caract6riz6s par deux composantes, li6es respectivement au centre M perturb6 ((18,Z f 0,5) ns iL 9 K ) et au centre M non perturb6 ((26,5 0,5) ns iL 9 K), dans l'interval de temperature 9 iL 320K: la composante li6e au centre M perturb6 disparait iL plus haute temperature; b) la vie moyenne du centre M perturb6 est une fonction d6croissante de la tempArature, au contraire de ce qui se passe en KCl dope avec des impuretb divalentes, oh elle reste constante jusq'iL la temperature ambient; c) on n'a relev6 aucune diff6rence pour le centre M unperturb6 parmi les donnkes concernantes les Bchantillons de NaCl dopes et non dop6s; pour la premiere fois, on a constat6 que la vie moyenne de ce centre decroit au dessus de 310K; d) le simple modkle du proces de d6-excitation sur deux canaux n'est pas valide pour le centre M perturb&; au contraire, ce model est d'accord avec les donn6es concernantes le centre M non perturb6, si Yon assume que 1'6nergie de dkexcitation est (0,46 f 0,02) eV.
