M2DC – Modular Microserver DataCentre with heterogeneous hardware

Abstract: The Modular Microserver DataCentre (M2DC) project investigates, develops and demonstrates a modular, highly-efficient, cost-optimized server architecture composed of heterogeneous microserver computing resources. The resulting server architecture will be able to be tailored to meet requirements from a wide range of application domains. M2DC is built on three main pillars: a flexible server architecture that can be easily customised, maintained and updated; advanced management strategies and system efficiency e… Show more

“…In Reference [ 40 ], these models [ 42 ] were used to study the energy efficiency of the data centers for different workloads and management policies. The M2DC project [ 131 ] also took advantage of thermal models in developed heterogeneous servers with energy-aware fan management and providing them the power capping functionality. In particular, adopting thermal models for predicting CPU temperatures enabled proactive fan management (i.e., smooth changes in fan speed).…”

“…In this section, we use the Christmann RECS microserver. It is an industrial-grade hardware partly designed within European projects FiPS 15 and M2DC 19 for HPC and HPEC applications. It allows to monitor all nodes using the same type of probes, which is important for comparisons and statistics.…”
