Abstract: Background: Pre-eclampsia is one of the most common causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is a systemic disease that affects about 5-7 % of all pregnancies and is the most common, yet least understood disorder of pregnancy. It is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure, platelet aggregation, swelling of the lower extremities and protein in urine.
