Abstract:The Mach cutoff of sonic boom occurs when shock waves propagate from supersonic to subsonic regions in a stratified atmosphere. In this study, numerical simulations are performed to clarify Mach cutoff behaviors in atmospheric temperature inversion layers, which have not yet been investigated. The two-dimensional Euler equations with a gravitational source term are solved in a horizontally stratified atmosphere. Surface and non-surface temperature inversion layers include three and four supersonic–subsonic mix… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
