Machine Learning-Based CO2 Prediction for Office Room: A Pilot Study

Abstract: Air pollution is increasing profusely in Indian cities as well as throughout the world, and it poses a major threat to climate as well as the health of all living things. Air pollution is the reason behind degraded indoor air quality (IAQ) in urban buildings. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main contributor to indoor pollution as humans themselves are one of the generating sources of this pollutant. The testing and monitoring of CO2 consume cost and time and require smart sensors. Thus, to solve these limitations,… Show more

“…R, a20-index, mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency index (NS), are the most used performance metrics. The MAPE, MAE, and RMSE represent the errors, and lower the values of these errors resulting in a higher R, and thus, the accuracy and performance of the ML models will be greater [ 45 , 46 ]. If the values of R, NS, and a20-index are near 1, then it reveals a strong positive relationship between the models.…”

“…According to a research study [48], in a poorly ventilated room, the aerosol suspension duration increased tenfold. In a steady-state condition, the interior ventilation and the indoor CO 2 concentration have a specific relationship [49]. As a result, if a suitable device to detect interior ventilation is not available, the indoor CO 2 concentration might be utilised as a proxy indication.…”
