Magnesium Fertilization Affected Rice Yields in Magnesium Sufficient Soil in Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China

Abstract: Magnesium (Mg) plays a crucial role in rice yield. Heilongjiang Province is the main rice-producing region of China, playing an important role in guaranteeing China's and the world's grain security. However, rarely Mg fertilization is applied in this province. Soil Mg status of main rice-producing areas in Heilongjiang Province was investigated and Mg fertilizer experiments were conducted aiming to provide fertilizer recommendation in this region. A total of 358 soil samples from the 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm soil … Show more

“…Mg fertilization also promotes tobacco yield and quality in South Anhui (Zhang et al, 2015 ). Even in Mg-sufficient soils (northeast and north-central China), field-based studies show 8.5 and 9.3% yield increases in Mg supplemented rice and cabbage plots, respectively (Ding et al, 2012 ; Liu et al, 2021 ). Indeed, most crop plants have highly dynamic Mg demand over the growing season and may show MGD symptoms at certain critical growth stages even in Mg sufficient fields, therefore, Mg application improves crop yield or quality in a species-dependent manner (Wang et al, 2020 ; Liu et al, 2021 ).…”

How dramatic spatial variations in the abundance of soil Ex-Mg affect crop yield and quality improvement, and what are crop-, soil-, and region-oriented strategic solutions for fertilizer providers have emerged as two fundamental challenges to be tackled seriously.…”

“…If there is an excess of Mg, it will inhibit Ca uptake by plants [42], [44]. Magnesium plays a role in increasing rice production, but according to [45], its role is small since the Mg needed by plants have been fulfilled from the Mg in the soil.…”

“…Gransee & FüHrs, (2013) melaporkan kadar Mg dapat dipertukarkan (Mgdd) sangat dipengaruhi oleh kapasitas tukar kation dan pH tanah. Liu et al (2021) menemukan bahwa pH tanah berkorelasi positif dan sangat signifikan (0,535**) terhadap magnesium. Selain itu, kandungan Mg-dd bervariasi berdasarkan kedalaman tanah yang berbeda.…”
