Magnetic Metal–Organic Frameworks: γ‐Fe2O3@MOFs via Confined In Situ Pyrolysis Method for Drug Delivery

Abstract: A general one-step in situ pyrolysis route for the construction of metal-organic frameworks encapsulating superparamagnetic γ-Fe2O3NPs dispersed in the confined cavities of MOFs homogeneously is described. The integration of γ-Fe2O3 NPs or clusters into MOFs can endow these porous materials with superparamagnetic element. By the combination of the thermal stability of MOFs and pyrolysis of metal triacetylacetonate complex at matched conditions, the porous structure of MOFs are well maintained while the size-in… Show more

“…To achieve better controlled ibuprofen release and multifunctional MOFs, Wu et al loaded MIL-53(Al) with superparamagnetic γ-Fe 2 O 3 NPs and ibuprofen sequentially. 213 The submicrometer MIL-53(Al) achieved the adsorption capacity of ibuprofen ∼0.11 g/g MIL-53(Al) loaded with iron oxide nanoparticles. A three-phase release of ibuprofen from MOFs was observed, and the MOFs retained their magnetic properties after releasing the drugs.…”

“…7 The possibility of using the inner cavities of MOFs as templates for the design of tiny metal/metal oxide NPs can be therefore considered of high relevance in the design of advanced nanocatalysts. 8 Previous studies proved the successful incorporation of monometallic or bimetallic alloy NPs within the pores of MOFs. 9 However, the incorporation of bimetallic core–shell NPs into the MOF pores remains a great challenge as the core–shell NPs would be more easily deposited on the external surface of MOFs.…”

“…Gold nanorods (GNRs) are known to generate heat by absorption of near infrared light, the so-called photothermal conversion effect [200]. Furukawa and co-workers demonstrated the synthesis of core-shell type mesoscopic composites of GNR@[Al(OH)(1,4-ndc)] n from GNR@alumina via coordination replication (Fig.…”
