Magnetic Microspheres: A Novel Drug Delivery System

Abstract: A well designed controlled drug delivery system can provide a therapeutic amount of drug to the proper site in the body and then maintain the desired drug concentration for the specific period of time.A number of approaches are available in delivering therapeutic substance to the target site in sustained and controlled release fashion. One such approach is using magnetic microspheres as carriers for drugs. Microsphere drug delivery system has gained vast attention due to its diverse applications that range from… Show more

“…Magnetic microparticles for medical applications have been developed, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and drug delivery, and they are a promising choice in tumor therapy accompanied by hyperthermia. The release can be fine-tuned by the strength of the applied magnetic heating: with a gentle magnetic effect, the particles react with shrinkage and slow drug release, and with intense heating, the structure disruption induces the shrinking, which leads to a burst release [19].…”

“…Normal control group contrasted with rest of the treated groups with the significance at *P<0.05, **P<0.01, ***P<0.001. In time to come by merging different additional policies, microspheres will have chief position in new drug delivery, especially in diseased cell finding, targeted and effective in vivo delivery and promoters as mini models of diseased organ and tissues [11][12][13]. Magnetic Microsphere gives huge chances for formulating new controlled and delayed release formulations, thus extending the borderline of upcoming pharmaceuticals [14][15][16].…”

“…Then, it is introduced into the body through intravenous or arterial injection. Under the effect of the external magnetic field, the magnetic microspheres loaded with drugs are concentrated and located in the target focal zone, improving the concentration of drugs in the target area [ 44 , 45 ]. According to the properties of the magnetic drug-loaded microspheres, we can realize the controlled and predictable rate of drug release with smaller doses of the drug and the avoidance of acute toxicity directed against endothelium and normal parenchyma cells [ 46 ].…”
