Magnetic Properties of SMC Cores Produced at a Low Compacting Temperature

Abstract: Soft magnetic composites are readily used in the design of electromagnetic converters and electrical machines. In the paper, the magnetic properties of "home-made" cores made of iron powder and suspense polyvinyl chloride are examined. Samples were prepared by hot pressing of a PVC/Fe powder mixture with a different ratio of constituent components. Phase composition was investigated using an X-ray diffractometer and the presence of α-Fe was detected. Measurements of magnetic permeability revealed its allometri… Show more

“…As the result of material compaction, the iron grains are squeezed together which results in an improved packing ratio for the considered soft magnetic composite (SMC) cores. Smaller air and insulator gaps between the iron grains imply that the effect of demagnetization fields becomes less significant [52,53]. We considered that the residual stresses induced in the material after compaction were in the first approximation proportional to the compaction pressure applied to the sample.…”

“…Hysteresis curves of SMCs have been described using different formalisms: the Preisach model [10,11], different modifications of the Jiles-Atherton description [10][11][12][13][14], the hyperbolic T (x) model [13,15] and recently the Schneider proposal [16]. In the present paper we consider the application of Grucad description [17][18][19].…”

“…One of their possible applications are durable panels shielding of the electromagnetic field in a wide range of frequencies [1]. Yet another one are magnetic cores for the electrical industry [2]. This fact is due to the possibility of improving the mechanical properties of the base material and lowering the price of the final product [3][4][5].…”
