“…As before, for this approximation (22) to be sound, Rðo; H ¼ H c Þ % 1 is assumed in the denominator of Eq. (8). At high l, GMR MRE tends to a constant 20.5%, marginally higher than the true GMR value of 19.5% (see Fig.…”

“…The potential of the MRE to study magnetic thin films has previously been demonstrated. Following its first discovery using Ni 80 Fe 20 /Cu/Co/Cu multilayers in transmission experiments [1], infrared-wavelength MRE measurements have been extended to the reflection geometry [4,5], contributions to the effect from interband transitions [6] and phonon modes have been identified [7], and MRE results compared to magnetic-linear-dichroism and emissivity studies [8,9]. The wide applicability has been demonstrated in studies of the transport properties of GMR granular [5,10], multilayer [11], spin-valve [8,12] thin films, LaSrMnO perovskites [13] and granular metal-insulator systems [14][15][16].…”

“…In an intraband absorption region, the MRE is caused by the asymmetry of conduction electrons scattering for up-spin ͑ ↑ ͒ and down-spin ͑ ↓ ͒ directions relative to spontaneous magnetization in the bulk and at interfaces of ferromagnetic layers, and therefore the MRE is often called high-frequency ͑optical͒ analog of the GMR. By present time, MRE was theoretically developed 7-10 and experimentally observed [11][12][13][14][15][16] in a wide variety of materials. Several MRE investigations of Fe/Cr system are available.…”

“…For this phenomenon to be observed, the frequency must be such that ot51, where t is the scattering rate of carriers. For good conductors, this limit is around the near infrared (IR) spectrum and that is the reason why MRE has been measured at far-and mid-IR wavelengths to track the magnetoresistance of spin valves and metallic granular systems [3][4][5][6]. Colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) manganites afford an interesting playground to test the MRE with higher frequency electromagnetic waves.…”
