The discipline of project management has been maturing over time, integrating positively with some organizational approaches, such as strategy and sustainable development, to meet current needs without risking future capabilities. In this sense, it is observed that measuring the success of a project only from the classic mechanistic perspective of the triple constraint: scope, time, and budget, is insufficient; this opens a space for a new variable of social progress: the creation of value. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the degree of relationship between the success of the projects and the sustainable development approach, managing to determine through the results obtained some opportunities for improvement in light of the economic and organizational context. As a starting point for this research, a review of the literature associated with topics, such as sustainable development, value creation, and modern trends in project management, was carried out. The second step was to design and apply a structured survey to 148 Colombian companies that develop projects in different sectors, such as technology, infrastructure, and services. With the information collected, a structural equation modeling—SEM model was applied to determine the relationship between the selected variables. Finally, the results of this research showed that the success of a project that is carried out under a sustainable development approach has a positive tendency toward the creation of value. In conclusion, it is found that the four dimensions studied: impact, relevance, effectiveness, and efficiency, allow us to explain to a greater or lesser extent the success of the projects through their approach to sustainable development and value creation.

This paper analyses the main relationships between the perception of spirituality, participation in volunteer projects and the development of soft skills. 309 questionnaire forms were applied and the method of multivariate analysis of linear regression was used. Relevant relationships were found between the constructs. The variable related to learning proved to be decisive for the decision to participate in volunteer projects, demonstrating the interest of volunteers in this type of development. In addition, the higher level of personal spirituality, according to the respondent's perception, favours the development of soft skills, in addition to active participation in volunteering, not occasional, but frequent and systematic, preferably weekly. On the one hand, the company can stimulate spirituality passively or actively. On the other hand, the company can allow, encourage and even promote weekly participation in volunteer projects. Faced with the need for organizations to develop Soft Skills, this work contributes to the proposal of alternative ways to increase these skills, in view of the perception that courses and business schools have not achieved this objective. Results can also contribute to society by demonstrating that the effort to meet the needs of others can bring individual benefits to those who dedicate themselves to this task.

PurposeDue to the uniqueness of individual construction projects, identifying the dominant risk factors is needed for risk mitigation in ongoing and future projects. This study aims to identify the dominant construction supply chain risk (CSCR) factors, based on studies conducted between 2002 and 2022.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopts the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) procedure to identify, screen and select relevant articles in order to provide a bibliography and annotation of the prevalent risks in the supply chains. A descriptive analysis of the findings then follows.FindingsThe study’s findings have highlighted the three most prevalent risks in the construction supply chain (poor communication across project teams, changes in foreign currency rate, unfavorable climate conditions) as reported in literature, that project teams need to pay closer attention to and take proactive steps to mitigate.Research limitations/implicationsDue to limitations imposed by the chosen research methodology, tools, time frame and article availability, the study was unable to examine all CSCR-related papers.Practical implicationsThe results will serve as a useful roadmap for risk/supply chain managers in the construction industry to take strategically proactive steps towards allocating resources for CSCR mitigation efforts.Social implicationsContext-specific research on the impact of social and cultural risks on the construction supply chain would be beneficial, due to emerging social network risk factors and the complex socio-cultural settings.Originality/valueThere is presently no study that has reviewed extant studies to identify and compile the dominant risk factors (DRFs) associated with the supply chain of construction projects for ranking in the supply chain risk management process.
