Mineralogical features of two orebodies or lenses (C-3 and C-4) at the central part of the Oktyabr'sky deposit were identified. Multidirectional mineralogical zoning in the northern and southern orebodies is shown, confirming the hypothesis of their formation from various magmatic flows, which have individual features and their own modes of formation. The southern C-3 and northern C-4 orebodies differ in their mineralogical associations: the first one is characterized by a high-sulfur association of sulfides, and the second one contains minerals with a sulfur deficit (talnakhite, sugakiite). Variations in Fe and Ni ratios in pentlandite are controlled by the volatility of sulfur during ore crystallization. Direct crystallization zoning is observed in the disseminated ores of the C-4 orebody (borehole RT-107), where the fugacity of sulfur (fS2) increases from bottom to top. Whereas in orebody C-3 (borehole RT-30) fS2 decreases in the same direction. The identified reverse zoning coincides with the vectors of the evolution of ore systems in various blocks of the Main Ore Body (MOB) of the Oktyabr'sky deposit. The difference in typomorphic features of disseminated ores of the southern and northern orebodies is confirmed by differences in the associations of platinum group element minerals (PGMs). Disseminated ores in picritic gabbro-dolerites and massive pyrrhotite ores in the exocontact of the intrusion within the southern orebody differ in the specialization of PGMs: the first is characterized by minerals of the Pd-Bi-Sb-Te system, the latter -only Pt minerals. The similarity of these types of ores lies in the similar reverse mineralogical and geochemical zoning from top to bottom along the sections, caused by the evolution of the sulfide melt in this direction. The formation of reverse zoning of disseminated ores (zones of "marginal reversion") is probably due to the action of the mechanism of repeated influx of a melt of an increasingly primitive composition into the upper parts of the crystallizing

The sulfide ores and platinum-group minerals (PGM) of the deposits have also been investigated in detail (Distler et al , 1975, 1976, 1977, 1996; Genkin et al , 1966, 1969, 1981; Genkin and Evstigneeva, 1986; Begizov et al , 1974; Razin et al , 1976; Evstigneeva and Genkin, 1983; Barkov et al , 2000 a , b ; Barnes et al , 2006; Duran et al , 2017, etc.). We present here new data on the low-sulfide mineralisation in the upper endocontact of the Noril'sk 1 intrusion. Twenty four mineral species of platinum-group elements and their solid solutions, as well as numerous unnamed phases, including an Sb analogue of vincentite, As and Sn analogues of mertieite-I and a Sn analogue of mertieite-II have been found. It is shown that the features of the mineral association: (1) the atypical trend of TiO2 and Fe2+ in chromian spinel; (2) the composition of the Pt–Fe alloys with a Fe/Fe + Pt range of 0.26–0.37 (logfO2 ≈ – (9–10); and (3) crystallisation of high-temperature sperrylite from silicate melt (at >800°C and logfS2 < –10.5), which is possible under fO2 of FMQ to FMQ-2 in mafic magma, are due to the reducing conditions of their formation and evolution. Droplet-like inclusions of silicate-oxide minerals in сhromian spinels and sulfides in platinum-group minerals are interpreted to be trapped droplets of co-existing sulfide melt. The captured sulfide melt has evolved in the direction of increasing the fugacity of sulfur: troilite + pentlandite (Fe>Ni) – in sperrylite (paragenesis I) to monoclinic pyrrhotite + pentlandite (Ni≈Fe) + chalcopyrite – in Pt–Fe alloys (paragenesis II). Paragenesis from the sulfide aggregates in the silicate matrix are more fractionated: pyrrhotite + pyrrhotite (Ni>Fe) + chalcopyrite (III) and pyrite + pentlandite (Ni>>Fe) + millerite (IV). Pd arsenides and antimonides crystallised later than sperrylite and isoferroplatinum, as a result of the evolution of a sulfide melt with an increased activity of the element ligands (Te, Sn, Sb and As).

“…Previously, electron-microprobe data on Pd-Ni arsenides that are similar in composition to menshikovite were reported from the Stillwater (USA), Two-Duck Lake and Geordie Lake (Canada) intrusions (Cabri et al, 1975;Mulja and Mitchell, 1990). Menshikovite and these unnamed phases differ in atomic proportions (and X-ray data) from majakite (or mayakite), ideally PdNiAs, initially discovered at Noril'sk (Genkin et al, 1976;Genkin et al, 1981), and subsequently described from the Konttijärvi layered intrusion in Finland (Vuorelainen et al, 1982). Synthetic analogues of menshikovite and majakite were reported to exist in the system PdNi-As at 4508C (Gervilla et al, 1994).…”

The average compositions of menshikovite (Pd 3 Ni 2 As 3 ) from the type locality (Lukkulaisvaara layered intrusion, Russian Karelia) and a Pd-Ni arsenide synthesized at 4508C, are very close. The observed SMetal:As ratio is close to 5:3, as in the case of previously described arsenides from the Stillwater and Two-Duck Lake intrusions. The compositions suggest that these unnamed Pd-Ni arsenides and the synthetic phase are in fact menshikovite.
