Making the World More Sustainable: Enabling Localized Energy Generation and Distribution on Decentralized Smart Grid Systems

Abstract: Smart grid is an idea of upgradation of the traditional electric grid infrastructure. The efficiency of the existing electrical grid can be automated by integrating with innovative technical equipment such as: high-tech forecasting system, digital sensors, advanced two-way communication and two-way power flow systems. Smart grid establishes an interface between utility and consumer which helps to use energy, based on the preferences of price, eco-friendly and without technical system issues. It empowers the gr… Show more

“…Timmons et al [24] pointed out that costs of renewable energy will be reduced more, while costs of fossil fuels are expected to grow. Furthermore, Bhatti and Danilovic [1] stated that in decentralized and localized systems, electricity is distributed to specific geographic areas. Therefore, if electricity is generated in the same place where consumers live, the distribution and transmission costs will be reduced.…”

“…In many developed countries, as well as places where centralized power supply is unavailable, for example, islands or, as is typical for Russia, a huge number of regions that have difficulties with access to power supply, in which RES will be competitive, it is necessary to pay attention to the development of distributed power supply to consumers [10,11]. To meet this energy need, 77% of global demand refers to buying a home solar system.…”

“…DES provides energy supply to critical facilities during emergency and outage, reduces energy storage cost, ensures fault tolerance and local accountability. However, frequent intermittency of RES's outputs at participants level can make DES complex [4,5].…”
